QSNP Wrapped! A review of 2023
25 December 2023A lot of things have happened since QSNP was launched on March 2023! Here is the recap of the first months of the project.
Launch of QSNP and Kick-off meeting
March 1st, 2023, marked the official launch of the Quantum Secure Networks Partnership, the new project in the area of quantum communications of the Quantum Flagship. Coordinated by ICREA Prof. at ICFO, Valerio Pruneri, QSNP brings together more than 40 partners from all over Europe, ranging from academia, foundries and RTOs, SMEs and spin-offs, to network and cryptography integrators and telecom operators.
ICFO hosted the first General Assembly meeting of QSNP, which took place on April 24-25, with the attendance of members from the 42 consortium partners constituting the initiative.
First Workshop
On June 20th, Technologiepark – Zwijnaarde (Ghent, Belgium) hosted the first WP5 workshop of the Quantum Secure Networks Partnership. As part of the first WP5 workshop, Fab partners (Tu/e, HHI, CEA, UPB, Imec and Tyndall) presented their industrial capabilities for the project. Presentations regarding the quantum photonic integrated circuits (qPIC) wish list from the Quantum partners (UniPD, ICSS-NTUA, ICFO, HHI, CNRS, AIT, Quside, DTU) also took place. The workshop also covered different topics in terms of research challenges, internal organizational structure and performance of active partners within this working group, as well as logistics for aiming to attain the expected goals and milestones set at the beginning of the project.
Website launched
In August, we proudly launched our new website, where visitors can now find comprehensive information about the project, including details on our current activities (News and Events), as well as additional resources such as Publications from our esteemed partners.
EQTC2023
The European Quantum Technologies Conference (EQTC), the main European event on Quantum Technologies (communications, computation, simulation and sensing), brought together leaders, innovators, and organizations to discuss the latest developments and trends in the field. As part of this event, the different underlying projects of the Quantum Flagship had the opportunity to showcase the technology that each has been developing and deploying already, share with the attending audience the goals, achievements, and roadmaps. But, in addition they have also posed the challenges that each are facing and the solutions that they are implementing to overcome current technological barriers and reach expected levels of tech maturity that could be of interest for industry.
Mini EuroQCI Demo
Professor Vicente Martin (UPM), Director of the Research Group on Quantum Information (GIICC) and Deputy Director of the Center for Computer Simulation (CCS-UPM) talks about ultra-secure video conference, a mini EuroQCI Demo at EQTC2023 (Hannover, Germany). The Polytechnic University of Madrid, a member of QSNP, managed the network during the event, providing the control and key management infrastructure. In collaboration with LuxQuanta and ThinkQuantum, also partners of QSNP, as well as the Italian company QTI SRL and Quantum Optics Jena GmbH, they carried out a live demonstration of quantum secure communication. The live video conference call was executed to recreate a mini version of the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI), thus showcasing the level of maturity of quantum technologies for telecommunications.
