QSNP
Quantum Secure Networks Partnership Workshop at Sorbonne University

On January 10th, Sorbonne University (Paris, France) hosted the third Quantum Secure Networks Partnership workshop centered on WP4 and WP6 titled Quantum meets Classical Cryptography.

As part of this workshop, partners from Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IPP), University of Vienna, KU Leuven, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), University of Padova, ICFO, Cryptonext Security, and Instituto Superior de Telecomunicações (IST) presented the research advances in their talks to over eighty attendees. The talks session also counted with several external invited speakers from prestigious institutions from outside EU like Renato Renner (ETH), Anne Broadbent (University of Ottawa) and Mina Doosti (University of Edinburgh) and Zvika Brakerski (Weizman Institute of Science).

In addition to the presentations, the workshop also featured tutorials led by invited professors from Sorbonne University. Furthermore, a panel on hardware security was held, where project partners such as Sebastian Etcheberry (LuxQuanta), Carlos Abellán (Quside), and Oleg Nikorov (DT) participated alongside Grégorie Ribordy (IDQ), Jessy Clediere (CEA-Leti), and Mark Kaplan (VeriQloud). In this panel, the current state of security in our networks was discussed, a topic of paramount importance in the context of cybersecurity.

Research in Quantum-Classical Cryptography

Additionally, the workshop delved into various research challenges, internal organizational structure, and performance of active partners within the working group during the final session of an internal project meeting. As Eleni Diamanti, Research Director at CNRS and one of the organizers, aptly stated, “We needed this workshop to bring together the community to sit down and talk in detail about the scientific aspects of the hybridization of these quantum and classical techniques. A workshop like this will be a great asset to move forward in this direction.”

Furthermore, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a poster session, where over 10 young researchers showcased the results of their projects and engaged in in-depth discussions with fellow participants. To top it off, on the last night, organizers hosted a cocktail dinner at Tower Zamansky, an impressive high rise building in the Marie and Pierre Curie campus of Sorbonne University, where all participants and invited speakers could enjoy a breathtaking view of Paris.

About QSNP

QSNP is a project of the Quantum Flagship initiative within the Quantum Communication research pillar. Officially launched in March 2023, the partners of this initiative are currently working towards developing advanced technology for quantum secure communications, integrating quantum cryptography technology and establishing this technology for quantum-safe critical public and private infrastructures.

ICREA Professor Valerio Pruneri at ICFO coordinates this project, collaborating with companies and institutions from 14 different countries across Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Greece, and Malta)
