Tunnelling

In quantum mechanichs, tunnelling is a phenomenom in which a particle like an electron or atom passes through a potential energy barrier that, according to classical mechanics, they shouldn’t be able to pass because it doesn’t have enough energy. Tunneling is a consequence of the wave nature of matter. In quantum mechanics, a wave function can describe the state of a particle (or other physical system).
